Daniel Plominski works on IT infrastructure, IT security and applied AI: virtualisation and storage platforms, network and firewall architecture, and language models running on owned hardware rather than rented from a hyperscaler. Digital sovereignty is the common thread: keeping data, models and control inside systems that their operator actually owns.
From 2017 to July 2026 I was head of IT at ASS-Einrichtungssysteme GmbH, responsible for the IT team and for the systems behind 440 employee workstations; that role has its own section below.
Today I am managing director of Nokkela-IT-Concept GmbH in Kronach, Germany, a vendor-independent IT service provider for infrastructure, security and applied AI, entered in the commercial register at Amtsgericht Coburg under HRB 7780.

What I work on
This work splits into four areas, and the principle behind all of them is an infrastructure a company can operate and audit itself, without depending on a single vendor to do it. The building blocks are Proxmox VE, Ceph, Palo Alto firewalls and open-weights language models; the security work follows ISO 27001, NIS2 and BSI 200-4.
- Virtualisation and storage. Proxmox VE clusters with Ceph block storage, designed for live migration and planned maintenance windows.
- Network and firewall architecture. Palo Alto firewalls, network segmentation, tiered Active Directory and an internal PKI.
- Security operations. SIEM and XDR, ISO 27001 and NIS2 readiness, business continuity management based on BSI 200-4.
- On-premise AI. Open-weights language models on dedicated GPU hardware, retrieval-augmented search across internal documents, speech recognition and synthesis.
What I was responsible for as head of IT
From January 2017 to July 2026 I was head of IT at ASS-Einrichtungssysteme GmbH in Stockheim, a family-run manufacturer of school furniture with four sites, three of them in Germany. I led a team of four, was part of the management team (Führungskreis) for many years and set the strategic and operational direction of IT for the three German sites.
Overall responsibility for IT across several sites means more than running infrastructure: the work reached into the individual departments and gave them new impetus, from production and work preparation to administration and the field sales force. In ten years at the company I worked with a core of more than 40 external consultants, support partners and service providers across many projects to develop the group further. The main areas:
- Security and remote work. A group-wide IT security concept and a group-wide remote-work concept covering production, administration, mobile staff and the field sales force.
- SAP. Day-to-day basic administration of the three-system SAP landscape, plus SAP support and project management for the departments: many business processes analysed, supported, improved and developed further. SAP migration projects over many years, from a system without enhancement packages to EHP 8.
- Production and work preparation. Production processes and infrastructure optimisation for work preparation, among them a distributed file system across the production sites that delivers CNC data to the local machines reliably, securely and fast.
- Engineering and product data. CAD infrastructure with post-processing; PIM infrastructure (product information management).
- CRM and documents. CRM infrastructure with cross-system data exchange between ERP, PIM and DMS; several projects in the DMS infrastructure (document management).

Woran ich arbeite
Diese Arbeit teilt sich in vier Bereiche. Der gemeinsame Grundsatz ist eine Infrastruktur, die ein Unternehmen selbst betreiben und prüfen kann, ohne dafür auf einen einzelnen Anbieter angewiesen zu sein. Die Bausteine sind Proxmox VE, Ceph, Palo-Alto-Firewalls und Open-Weights-Sprachmodelle; die Sicherheitsarbeit orientiert sich an ISO 27001, NIS2 und BSI 200-4.
- Virtualisierung und Storage. Proxmox-VE-Cluster mit Ceph-Blockspeicher, ausgelegt auf Live-Migration und planbare Wartungsfenster.
- Netzwerk- und Firewall-Architektur. Palo-Alto-Firewalls, Netzsegmentierung, getiertes Active Directory sowie eine interne PKI.
- Security-Betrieb. SIEM und XDR, ISO-27001- und NIS2-Readiness, Notfallvorsorge auf Basis von BSI 200-4.
- KI im Eigenbetrieb. Open-Weights-Sprachmodelle auf dedizierter GPU-Hardware, Retrieval-gestützte Suche über interne Dokumente, Spracherkennung und Sprachsynthese.
Was ich als IT-Leiter verantwortet habe
Von Januar 2017 bis Juli 2026 war ich IT-Leiter der ASS-Einrichtungssysteme GmbH in Stockheim, eines familiengeführten Herstellers von Schulmöbeln mit vier Standorten, drei davon in Deutschland. Ich habe ein Team von vier Mitarbeitern geführt, über viele Jahre im Führungskreis mitgewirkt und die strategische und operative Ausrichtung der IT für die drei deutschen Standorte verantwortet.
Gesamtverantwortung für die IT über mehrere Standorte bedeutet mehr als Infrastrukturbetrieb: Die Arbeit reichte in die einzelnen Fachabteilungen hinein und hat dort neue Impulse gesetzt, von Produktion und Arbeitsvorbereitung bis Verwaltung und Außendienst. In zehn Jahren im Unternehmen habe ich über viele Projekte hinweg mit einem Stamm von über 40 externen Beratern, Support-Partnern und Dienstleistern die Unternehmensgruppe weiterentwickelt. Schwerpunkte:
- Security und Remote-Arbeit. Ein firmengruppenweites IT-Security-Konzept und ein firmengruppenweites Remote-Arbeitskonzept für Produktion, Verwaltung, mobile Mitarbeiter und den Außendienst.
- SAP. Operative Basisadministration der dreistufigen SAP-Systemlandschaft (drei Systeme), dazu SAP-Support und Projektmanagement für die Fachabteilungen: viele Unternehmensprozesse analysiert, betreut, verbessert und weiterentwickelt. Über viele Jahre SAP-Migrationsprojekte, von einem System ohne Enhancement Packages bis EHP 8.
- Produktion und Arbeitsvorbereitung. Produktionsprozesse und Infrastrukturoptimierungen für die Arbeitsvorbereitung, darunter ein verteiltes Dateisystem über die Produktionsstandorte hinweg, das CNC-Daten zuverlässig, sicher und performant an die lokalen Maschinen bringt.
- Konstruktion und Produktdaten. CAD-Infrastruktur mit Postprocessing; PIM-Infrastruktur (Produktinformationssystem).
- CRM und Dokumente. CRM-Infrastruktur mit schnittstellenübergreifendem Datenaustausch zwischen ERP, PIM und DMS; diverse Projekte in der DMS-Infrastruktur (Dokumentenmanagement).
